BASIC SIGNAL INSTRUCTION

101 - Basic Military Procedures, Protocol and Ediquette
This will be a booklet detailing military rank protocols and identification for both Federal and Confederate armies as well as the "Rank Appropriate Ediquette". A written test coupled with a practical test on ability to recognize specified infantry marching and weapon-handling commands.

102 - History of the Signal Corps
This test booklet is accompanied by a narrative dealing with this topic. The person pursuing qualification should read the booklet and then take the test in the presence of a qualifying rep in order to pass.

103 – The Two Element Code (General Service Code – DOT Code)
This booklet is accompanied by a narrative that lists the alphabet, numbers, and common prosigns as well as a generalized preconcerted code. Accompanying Training Material will be a video assisting the individual to memorize this code. A written test will be taken in the presence of a qualifying rep in order to pass. (individuals wishing for ONLY telegraph qualifications will receive AUDIO tapes to learn DOT CODE)

OPERATOR AND TECHNICIAN (two branches: Flags and Telegraph)

FLAG BRANCH

Flag Party Operator:

201 – Flag Party: Messenger
This is a written training material that includes not only the duties of Signal Detail Messengers but how to act on the field of battle and SAFETY thereon.
*how to best approach a mounted individual
*basic artillery implement signs and safety
*etc. . .

202 – Flag Party: Flagman
This training material contains not only written information but a video/DVD for the perspective individual to learn from.

203 – Flag Party: Bookman (is there a BETTER name?)
This will be a written training package and contains information on exactly WHAT information needs to be recorded and HOW it is to be recorded.

204 – Torch Signaling
This will include all of the details with using torches at night to include safety issues and be both a written and video/DVD presentation.


Flag Party Leader:

205 – Put Up/Translate (Cypher/Decypher) Messages
This package will tell the trainee how to take messages from plain text cyphered by using cypher discs appropriate to both armies. Also included will be how to make the Federal versions. This package will be both written and also be accompanied with a video/DVD.

206 – Relay Signaling
This will be a combination written/and Video/DVD presentation and detail all of the details on how to perform and manage RELAY SIGNALING.

Flag Party Trainer:

208 - Trainer Certification
This will be granted to individuals after they have completed all of the prior qualifications as well as the endorsement of their Signal Detachment Officer in Charge.

TELEGRAPH BRANCH

Telegraph Operator:

301 – American Morse
This training package will be both written and AUDIO/CD containing Scard-Produced training materials for the individual to learn this brand of Morse for use on Telegraph Circuits.

302 – Circuit Procedures
For using DOT code as well as MORSE


Telegraph Technician:

304 – Basic Electronic Theory (as applied to Telegraph)
This will be a written training material that will require the individual to purchase a simple (modern) ohm-meter and be completed by demonstrating the skills to a qualified trainer.

305 – Troubleshooting Procedures (for both Wired and Wireless versions).
This will be a written and video/DVD presentation that deals with many of the problems that have been experienced; how to identify them; and then how to regain an operational circuit as fast as possible.

Telegraph Qualifyer:

306 – Trainer Certification
This will be granted to individuals after they have completed all of the prior qualifications as well as the endorsement of their Signal Detachment Officer in Charge.

SIGNAL OFFICER QUALIFICATIONS

401 – S.O. Guidelines and Recommendations
This written package will contain information on a wide array of topics from how to deal with General Staffs to Performing Battlefield Walk-Thru's and pre-event scenerio planning to ensuring that correct and complete after action reports are written.

402 – S.O. Trainer Certification
This will be awarded to individuals who have completed all other packages and have demonstrated a full knowledge of all Signal Officer Guidelines and Recommendations above.
